Counseling for Adults

Why SI Counseling?

Welcome to SI Counseling! I want to encourage you to take a deep breath as you navigate this page and think about what you hope to accomplish on your journey with me.

SI Counseling was created because I recognize that when we carry so much of what we feel, think, and experience daily, we rarely find time to stop, SI[gh] and gain relief. Addressing what we experience and feel helps us be present and find balance.

At SI Counseling, everything you bring into the session is important and is your unique story. We must go through our stories to find peace. Within this safe space, I will gently guide you on your journey toward healing while encouraging you to SI[gh]!

Mechia Sydnor, LCPC, NCC

As an experienced Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC), I provide a safe and thoughtful environment where clients--individuals and couples-- and I collaborate to develop a deeper understanding of cognitive, emotional, and behavioral patterns that may be interfering with your quality of life and relationships with others. I received my Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Johns Hopkins University. My clinical areas of expertise include adult clients who are experiencing anxiety, racial trauma, relationship issues and distress, life transitions and adjustments, depression, and self-esteem issues among others.

I am a racial justice oriented clinician who believes everyone should be treated equally and as humans first. It is important for all people to feel safe and have a place of belonging. I try to ensure that you feel heard, seen, felt and supported. I also work to make sure that you have a safe space to navigate challenges and feelings so healing can begin.

When I am not traveling journeys with my clients, I enjoy spending time with my husband, son and our families and friends, visiting museums, off-roading in our trucks, reading, and listening to good throwbacks!

 My Theoretical Approach

I am a culturally competent clinician who uses an eclectic approach in my work with you. Everyone’s story is unique. Therefore, my approach to each client (or couple) should be different. I collaborate with you to develop a strong and trusting therapeutic relationship which is essential to my work with you. My therapeutic approach is tailored to meet your individual (or couple) needs as I travel your journey with you.

Some of these approaches include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) where I help you challenge thinking patterns that no longer serve you, person-centered therapy, strength-based techniques to help you identify where you thrive, mindfulness techniques to help you practice SI[ghing] and finding peace, multicultural therapy, and narrative therapy, among others. While I also use these approaches when working with couples, I use techniques from the Gottman Method and Relational Life Therapy to help deepen intimacy and communication.
